Your Website Is Slow: Practical Ways to Speed It Up
Visitors start leaving when a page takes more than a couple of seconds to appear, and search engines rank slow sites lower. A few changes account for most of the speed difference between sites.
Shrink your images
Oversized photos are the number one cause of slow pages. Before uploading, resize images to the width they will actually display at, and save them as WebP or compressed JPEG. A free tool like Squoosh does this in the browser.
Turn on caching
Caching lets your server hand visitors a ready-made copy of the page instead of building it from scratch every time. Most hosting panels and WordPress caching plugins (such as WP Super Cache) enable it with one switch.
Remove what you do not use
Every plugin, tracking script and font adds weight. Deactivate plugins you no longer need, and limit the site to one or two fonts.
Consider your hosting
If the site is still slow after the above, the server itself may be overloaded. Very cheap shared hosting is often the bottleneck; moving to a better plan is sometimes the only real fix.
