Your Website Is Down or Unreachable: What to Do
When a website cannot be reached, visitors see an error page instead of your business. The cause is almost always one of a handful of things, and most can be checked in minutes.
Step 1: Confirm it is really down
Open the site on your phone using mobile data, not Wi-Fi. If it loads there, the problem is your network, not the site. Also try typing the address carefully — a typo in the domain is the simplest cause.
Step 2: Check your hosting account
Log in to your hosting company and look for a suspended account or an unpaid invoice. Hosting is the most common reason a site goes dark, and renewal reminders often land in spam folders.
Step 3: Check the domain itself
If the domain registration expired, the whole site stops resolving. Log in to your registrar (the company you bought the domain from) and renew it. Most registrars give a grace period, so act quickly.
Step 4: Ask your host or developer
If the domain and hosting are both paid up, the server itself may be down. Contact your hosting support and ask whether there is an outage. Keep their reply — repeated outages are a reason to move hosts.
